Margate Cricket Ground Car Park Upgrade

Kingborough Council have recently completed an extension and stage one sealing of the Margate Cricket Ground Car Park.

The extension combined with dedicated line marked car spaces greatly increases parking capacity.

For the last ten years Channel Men’s Shed Members and other community organisations using the Margate Memorial Cricket Ground Car Park have had to contend with a red gravel surface which has turned to mud when wet or became a dust bowl when windy.

Another issue has been the car park needed to be extended to allow for the increased number of users.

Discussions with Council staff resolved that a sealed surface would prove to be the only satisfactory long term solution.

Kingborough Council provided funding of $145,000 to the extension and sealing with $33,000 provided by Channel Men’s Shed which included in excess of $20,000 from the State Government Local Communities Facilities Fund.

The community now have a magnificent, expanded area which will benefit all user groups such as Margate Cricket Club, Channel United Soccer, The Margate Volunteer Fire Brigade and parents and visitors to Margate Primary School.

Capacity of the site has dramatically increased due to the expansion and more organised parking.

Channel Men’s Shed Committee and Members would like to express gratitude to

Kingborough Council Staff and Councillors, Ministers Nic Street and Jacquie Petrusma and DPAC for their contributions towards the project.

President, CMS
